  • The Gambia is located in West Africa, almost entirely surrounded by Senegal except for its Atlantic coastline. Population is 2.8 million (2023).
    ​

  • Adult Literacy (age 15+) is 58.7% in 2022. There is a significant gender gap in literacy. Male is 65.3%, Femaleis 52.3%.
    ​

  • 17.2% live on less than US $2.15 perday.
    ​

  • Climate Risks: Vulnerable to floods, droughts, coastal erosion, saltwater intrusion, and windstorms 
     

  • Land & Water Issues: Saltwater entering farmland; limited irrigation infrastructure exacerbates crop vulnerability

30 children and youth receive support services for school, healthcare, computer training, and emotional support services.
